Ah, the USA. What can we say? Well, quite a lot really!
Many people in the UK are familiar with US wines, and Napa Valley in particular, thanks to some inexpensive, good quality wines, and deals lining supermarket shelves over the last few years. This has meant a certain ‘appreciation’ of US wines thanks to the affordability and easy access to these wines, however, do not be put off by this!
The film Sideways featured another Californian wine region, lesser known than Napa, but producing great quality wines thanks to the Californian countryside, Paso Robles is definitely an up and coming star.
The USA may have a reputation for producing mass quantities of wine at a seeming low price to consumers, but dig a little deeper and you find that there are some hidden gems. Having spent some time in Paso Robles, and meeting vineyard owners and winemakers, we can vouch for the quality of these wines, and know that the people working to grow the grapes, and do everything possible to produce the greatest wines they can, live for this.
There are several other areas in the US wine cabinet, but California is, in the UK at least, the most widely available.
