Generally thought of as a ‘New World’ wine producing country, South Africa is actually home to some estates which are actually older than the first recorded growing area in Bordeaux.
As far back as the mid 1600’s grapes were being grown, harvested, and turned into South African wine thanks to the arrival of the settlers from the Netherlands
Stellenbosch is one of the most well known wine producing regions in South Africa, there are a large number of wines from Stellenbosch which you are able to get sale or return, there are also a couple of other really well known wine producing regions in South Africa, such as Paarl and Constantia. Interestingly, all 3 of these South African wine growing regions are within a very small area around Cape Town!
Typically South African wines have a distinct flavour, thanks to the soil in which the grapes are grown, however there is a South African wine for all occasions.
