It has been said that when winemakers die, they dream of going to Chile.  This is not as strange as you may think, as it is in Chile that you can find the nearest thing to grape vine Eden. With the Pacific ocean on one side, and the Andes mountain range on the other, there are almost no pests to disturb the grape growing in the vineyards.  Combine this with almost no rain, cool temperatures and an abundance of sunlight and plenty of fresh water from melting snow, and you can understand why Chilean Wine is often excellent, and top class.

With the Oxford Companion to Wine stating that Chile is the Bordeaux of the southern hemisphere, Chile and its reliable, consistent wines have a very well respected following.
