USA

California is the center of US wine production which accounts for ninety percent of the wine production in the United States. The climate in California of mostly year round warm weather and mild winters make for deep white wines that are rich in flavor. These wines tend to be of fuller body than French wines without the earthiness of French wines. Rather, their flavors draw from the barrels and tend to be oakier with complex flavor. Peach, berries, apple, pear, tropical citrus fruits are often dominant characteristics of these wines.

Typical varieties are Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc, with Chardonnay being America’s number one selling white wine varietal. The average prices range from 10 pounds for a well made bottle of wine to 19 pounds for more upscale delicate flavored wines. Some popular white wine brands are Kistler, Stags leap, Hess, and Jordan among others. Another great thing about white wines is that they tend to be cheaper than red wines on average, with a really great white wine priced considerably lower than an equally great red wine.

Chardonnay and Zinfandel are a couple of the most respected white US wines available to the UK market.  Reasonable price, very drinkable, well worth a try on a sale or return basis!
