South Africa

With most South African white wines coming from a very small area around the cape, it’s not difficult to see that there is intense competition to produce world class white wines for global consumption.

With wine grapes being grown in the cape since the mid 17th century, South African white wines are distinct, and often of world class quality.  One of the most important white wine varieties has strong ties with the Loire region of France, and is Chenin Blanc.  That’s not to say that all of the best South African White wines are Chenin Blanc, there are also fantastic examples widely available of Sauvignon Blanc, as well as Chardonnay.
