South Africa

The most important red wine produced in South Africa is Pinotage – which was developed in South Africa around 90 years ago, and is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault.

Due to a number of restrictions on wine production in recent history, there are a number of other brilliant red wines now coming out of South Africa, from some young, less established vineyards.  Whilst we reckon they’re all worth a try, some of the best South Africa red wine worth having a closer look at are the Syrah and Cabernet varieties.
